Tennis Coaching for Children
“Amazing club, friendly coaches. My daughter really likes going there for her lessons.”
Over 30 coaches work for The Parklangley Club, all of whom are qualified, licensed, DBS checked and have all relevant first aid qualifications. They follow a set programme designed by the LTA to give variety and allow your child to progress at his or her own speed. With smaller courts, nets and rackets and lower bouncing balls, Mini Tennis offers the perfect introduction to the sport, with all the fun and energy of the real thing.
Mini Tennis Tots 3-5 years
This phase teaches children between the ages of three and five how to enjoy the game through a series of fun activities with the aim of improving their balance, co-ordination, agility, movement, and racket and ball skills.
Mini Tennis Red 5-8 years
Players learn to serve, rally and score with a slow ball, as well as learning the movement and co-ordination skills needed for tennis.
Players are encouraged to play fun competitions in teams and as individuals, with short matches using tie-break scoring.
Mini Tennis Orange 8-9 years
Players develop a rounded game learning a range of techniques and tactics.
Courts are bigger and wider than the red stage but still smaller than full-size tennis courts.
There are team and individual competitions with matches using tie-break scoring.
Mini Tennis Green 10 years
Played on a full size tennis court, with bigger rackets and balls which are a little softer than yellow balls.
It’s the next stage before moving on to full compression balls on a full sized court and helps players develop all aspects of their game.
Junior Tennis Coaching: Age 12 years upwards
From about 11 years upwards children are coached with proper tennis balls on a full size court. Maximum class size is 6 on one court, with lessons usually lasting one hour.
Children progress through different levels and there is a great deal of flexibility, allowing them to change groups if they progress at a different speed from others in the group.
The club is recognised as the top performance club in the county and children who show particular talent are offered the opportunity to join our performance programme where many children have achieved County, National and International standard. Currently we have 5 internationally ranked players 18+.
We are also proud to be one of 50 tennis centres across the country that will act as Local Player Development Centres (LPDCs).
